Family team prepares Gather in Carmel Valley
Gather is scheduled to open August 6 at 6 Pilot Road in Carmel Valley, taking over the former Roux space. Chef Matthew Zimny is opening the restaurant with his wife, Michelle, and sister, Heather, after working in Monterey County kitchens for several years. The concept combines Zimny’s Polish and Eastern European roots with Japanese influences while emphasizing regional produce and Monterey County wines.

San Luis Obispo reports broad wave of restaurant openings
San Luis Obispo has welcomed eight recently opened food-and-beverage businesses, with another eight reported to be in development. Recent arrivals include Frankie’s, Uma’s, Sushi Goshi, Idola Wine Co., a High Street Deli location at Roberto Court, Park 1039, Little Spoon Creamery and a Nautical Bean location on South Higuera Street.
Among the notable local personalities are Conrad and Uma Karl, the owners of Uma’s. Their restaurant draws from their Uzbekistani and Ukrainian backgrounds, offering Central Asian and Eastern European dishes.
