Have you Googled your business?
At the end of last year [2019], Google estimated that more than a billion people use Google Maps every month. If you haven’t claimed, created or updated your Google My Business account that means individuals could be seeing outdated information or nothing at all.
Why is it important? Google My Business is a free Business Profile that feeds information into Google Search and Google Maps. This helps your current customers and potential customers find information about your business.
Your Google My Business Process:
If you already have your Google My Business set up that is wonderful! Accessing your Google My Business can be done through the Google My Business website.
- If you don’t already have a Google Account, you will need to
create a Google Account by either creating a
@GMAIL.COM address or using a current work email.
- Once you have an account, go to Google My
Business and click the blue ‘Manage now’ button
- You will then be asked to type in your business name (a
couple of different things can happen):
- A: If you already have a Google Account, it may be registered with that account and you will be taken to the editor
- B: If your business does not exist you can create one
-
C: There is already an account
that has claimed your business
A & B are pretty simple and you can start editing your profile and uploading photos. You may need to verify the business by either having Google call the business line or have them mail you a postcard with a unique identification number.
C: If your Google My Business is already claimed you will need to go through the process of requesting access. Depending on the process for verification, it can take up to 10 days to receive access.
- You will then be asked to type in your business name (a
couple of different things can happen):
