When people think about farm to fork and Sacramento, visions of grapes, almonds, walnuts and tomatoes come to mind.  But, there’s one food item where Sacramento deserves more credit. Caviar. Yep, that’s right, Caviar.  Sacramento is the Caviar capital of the United States, producing 80% of the domestic supply from our local sturgeon fish farms. That means we can get delicious, local and more affordable caviar – it’s not just for the rich and famous any longer!

Caviar is often associated with luxury and being expensive. For that reason, many haven’t tried it. But times are changing as more chefs have discovered the unique, delicious, buttery flavor of Caviar and add it to their menus. Chef Brad Cecchi from Canon describes it as  “an umami bomb that’s craveable and keeps you wanting another bit.” We have chefs here in Sacramento doing really fun things with caviar in unexpected and approachable recipes from tacos, burgers to fries.

Come and taste what all the hype is about. Tying in with National Caviar Day on Thursday, July 18th, the Celebrate Caviar four-day event will showcase caviar at over 20+ participating restaurants featuring caviar menu items and specials. For those looking for a VIP Caviar experience, check out one of the 4 signature curated events featuring caviar tastings, educational sessions and tours of local caviar farms.

 

Special Caviar Tastings + Events

  • Thursday, July 18th 6 PM – Caviar Omakase Dinner at Kru includes a cocktail hour, three-course meal and caviar canapes created by executive chef Billy Ngo. This event is SOLD OUT. 

  • Thursday, July 18th 5 PM – 7 PM – High Brow Happy Hour at The Firehouse Restaurant with Jay Veregge and Mario Ortiz - Registration + Event Details

  • Saturday, July 20th 1 PM – Complimentary Tsar Nicoulai Private Farm Tour with a Sturgeon Farm Expert + Optional VIP Champagne and Caviar Tasting - Registration + Event Details

  • Saturday, July 20th 4 PM – 7 PM -  Caviar Day Rage at Canon with Passmore Ranch. Music, Caviar, Booze. Tickets start at $75 and include caviar + champagne - Registration + Event Details 

  • Sunday, July 21st 11 AM – Caviar Brunch at Allora featuring Passmore Ranch includes robust edible tablescape with four coursed meal (including passed appetizers and Prosecco greeting). Only 40 spots available, $125 ++ per person, please call 916.538.6434 for reservations.
