The Petition Letter to Lawmakers

State and Local Lawmakers:

As your constituent, I am fed up with rising costs for everything, and I am asking you to do something different: STOP!

California already has more than 400,000 regulations, and every year, lawmakers pile on more, adding costs and red tape for our small neighborhood restaurants that are barely surviving. More of the same isn’t working to lower costs for anyone. Lawmakers over the years have only made it more expensive to live in California.

We are seeing Michelin-starred restaurants, long-standing iconic restaurants, and our small neighborhood restaurants closing because they can’t afford rising costs and predatory lawsuits, and, frankly, neither can your constituents.

Here are a few things you can do to help:

  • Pause further minimum wage increases and deal with the root causes of the high cost of living. Higher minimum wage only forces prices to rise and jobs to be cut.
  • Protect neighborhood restaurants by stopping new pathways for predatory lawsuits in legislation.
  • Limit exorbitant credit card swipe fees that big banks are charging for workers’ tips and sales taxes.
  • Reconsider extreme environmental and energy policies that hurt reliability, increase utility rates, ban natural gas, and add unrelenting fees on single-use packaging, making it too difficult and expensive for the realities of small restaurants on the ground.

Sincerely,

NAME, LOCATION
