Eight top restaurant companies sent teams to compete at the first Culinary Clash event Sunday at the Anaheim Convention Center. The event, held in conjunction with the Western Foodservice & Hospitality Expo, attracted hundreds of spectators hungry to see some of the industry’s top executives cook alongside corporate chefs for the ultimate bragging rights.

Ten powerhouse restaurant companies have signed on to compete in the inaugural Culinary Clash: Battle Anaheim, a fundraising event that will benefit the California Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (CRAEF). The battle will commence at 3 p.m. Aug. 12 in conjunction with the Western Foodservice & Hospitality Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center.
- 3. Culinary Clash launches online competitive fundraiser
The Culinary Clash: Battle Anaheim event benefiting the California Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (CRAEF) is just weeks away. A public fundraising campaign launched on Facebook Monday, with the goals of raising funds for and awareness about the Foundation. Donors can use an easy payment module to give a gift, noting their favorite participating restaurant.

- Oppose Berkeley’s local minimum wage proposal
The Berkeley City Council recently requested that the city manager draft a minimum wage ordinance for review and consideration by the city’s commission on labor. A subcommittee of the Commission on Labor will host two public hearings to gather information at 3 p.m. Tuesday or 3 p.m. June 18 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center, 2180 Milvia St., Cypress Conference Room, First Floor.
- Full Assembly to vote on annual minimum wage hikes
This week, the full Assembly will consider AB 10 (Alejo), which proposes to raise the minimum wage by $1.25 over three years and then put wage increases on auto-pilot for annual increases. If approved, this proposal will kick in the same day that the federal government’s employer health care mandate will begin on Jan. 1, 2014.
