After earning recognition at the state level, Panda Restaurant Group (Rosemead), Cohn Restaurant Group (San Diego) and Griselda Barajas (Griselda's Catering and World Café, Sacramento) were honored with national awards April 29 at a gala during the National Restaurant Association's Public Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C.
“While it's widely known that California leads the nation in terms of culinary innovation, it's exceptionally humbling to see how the industry stands in terms of community giving and creating meaningful opportunities for people to achieve the American Dream in restaurants,” CRA President + CEO Jot Condie. “We extend our warmest congratulations to all of these national award winners.”
Panda Restaurant Group and the Cohn Restaurant Group both received 2014 Restaurant Neighbor Awards in recognition of their community service efforts.
Having been awarded $5,000 to be donated to the charity of their choice, the California Restaurant Association Education Foundation (CRAEF) was delighted to be chosen as the restaurant of choice by the Panda Restaurant Group.
Standing as a testament to the opportunities available within the restaurant industry and vitality of the American Dream, Barajas was awarded the Faces of Diversity American Dream award.
Aside from work and family responsibilities, Barajas is very active in the community, forging strong relationships with elected officials, business and community leaders and trade union representatives.
She has been a member of the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and PAC since 1992; serves on the boards for the Metro Chamber of Commerce; Slavic Chamber of Commerce; California Restaurant Association; California Restaurant Association PAC; American Leadership Forum; and the Cristo Rey High School.
Barajas also has been honored with the Small Business Advocate of the Year from the California Chamber of Commerce, as well as Business Woman of the Year from the Sacramento and California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
