“Our foundation's mission is to enhance the wellbeing of the communities we exist in. ProStart aligns with these principles and we are honored to support the California national team in their journey to Minneapolis to compete,” said Sherry O'Neill of The Cheesecake Factory Oscar and Evelyn Overton Charitable Foundation.
Both the state and national competitions are divided into two distinct events. Culinary students have 60 minutes to prepare a three-course meal using two butane burners, while management students will develop and present a business proposal for a new restaurant concept, including a supporting menu, a marketing plan and a detailed design.
“We are so grateful that The Cheesecake Factory Oscar and Evelyn Overton Charitable Foundation has come back to sponsor the 2014 CA national team,” CRAEF Executive Director Alycia Harshfield said. “This is an amazing opportunity for the students to meet and compete against students from all over the country. It is an invaluable experience and it is made possible by their generosity.”
First-, second- and third-place teams from both events also will qualify for scholarships to various culinary and hospitality post-secondary programs.
