(Sacramento, Calif) –California Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (CRAEF). announced Thursday that a combined operating and specialty group of Sysco companies joined forces to become CRAEF’s first Foundation Partner.
CRAEF supports more than 8,500 students in 121 ProStart® programs in California high schools. Through scholarships for college and the ProStart program, CRAEF provides students with an incentive to stay in school, consider a career in the restaurant industry and have access to college. “We are grateful to Sysco for demonstrating their commitment to our industry by investing in the success of the next generation of industry leaders.” said CRAEF Executive Director Alycia Harshfield. “Our work is more meaningful when industry partners participate and Sysco has stepped up in a big way.”
Through the partnership, Sysco will support the robust activity and training that CRAEF offers ProStart® students including Fieldtrips and Culinary demonstrations, Force in Training (FIT™) soft-skill job readiness, ProStart Cup, as well as the in-class instructional opportunities.
“Sysco is excited to partner with CRAEF to invest in the training and education of the Hospitality industries future leaders.” Says Executive VP of Sysco Los Angeles Bryan Allred. “These students have a unique opportunity to get a head start which will give them a leg up for the rest of their career. “
A combined effort by several operating and specialty Sysco companies in California combined to invest in the partnership, proving a major cash and in-kind donation to CRAEF for the ProStart® program. Students that graduate from the ProStart program work in hospitality venues around the world.
About the California Restaurant Association Educational Foundation: CRAEF has awarded more than $1.5 million in scholarships and grants since its inception in 1981. CRAEF works to enhance education and training programs within the hospitality industry. ProStart is a two-year program designed to prepare high school juniors and seniors for exciting careers in foodservice.
