In the face of the Friday deadline for the bill to move off the Assembly floor or effectively be dead for the year, AB 10 was brought up for a vote on the Assembly floor today and remained five votes short of passage for more than three hours. A group of more moderate Democrats weren’t willing to support the bill with any indexing of the wage and that, combined with aggressive California Restaurant Association (CRA) lobbying, forced the author to write a letter to the Assembly record committing that he will remove indexing provisions from AB 10 in the Senate.
With that commitment, the bill was approved by the Assembly and sent to the Senate. The CRA has already started its opposition campaign on the issue with the state Senate.
