Greater Sacramento Restaurant PAC endorses Phyllis Newton for Sacramento City Council

The Greater Sacramento Restaurant Political Action Committee, in affiliation with the California Restaurant Association Sacramento chapter, is pleased to announce its endorsement of Phyllis Newton in the race for the District Four of the Sacramento City Council. The PAC was formed in late 2011 with a mission to give the Sacramento restaurant community a greater voice on issues affecting the City of Sacramento, as well as the greater Sacramento region. Newton is the first candidate to earn the endorsement of the PAC.

“Phyllis is a proven leader in our community and understands that a strong economy is essential to a vibrant community,” said Griselda Barajas, chairwoman of the Greater Sacramento Restaurant PAC and owner of Griselda’s Catering. “Phyllis appreciates that Sacramento’s restaurants add to both the economic and cultural vitality of our city. We look forward to working with her.”

Sacramento is increasingly recognized as a culinary center that attracts chefs and consumers alike. There are more than 1,800 restaurants in the City of Sacramento, with the highest concentration of eateries in District Four. As the city aims to improve its business climate while redeveloping the Railyards and downtown core, CRA’s Sacramento chapter will work with policymakers to ensure that the restaurant industry is protected and promoted.

“I’m proud to have the support of so many local businesses who understand the need for real economic growth in our community,” Newton said. “Our restaurants serve hubs of activities in and around our neighborhoods, and we need to foster those and other businesses that strengthen Sacramento.”
