(Sacramento, Calif) –California Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (CRAEF). announced Thursday that the Culinary Institute of America (CIA), Ecolab and Sysco LA will serve as bronze level sponsors and provide judges and products for ProStart Cup 2015, March 22-23 at the Pasadena Convention Center.
This dynamic event brings together talented high school students from ProStart programs across the state, who collectively represent the future of California’s restaurant and foodservice industries. Over the two day competition, students will compete in both culinary and management events, putting their knowledge and skills to the test. “We are grateful to have such strong companies participating in our event,” said CRAEF Executive Director Alycia Harshfield. “CIA, Ecolab and Sysco have been long-time supporters of ProStart, both in judging and sponsorship”
Ecolab, who provided team product donations will be represented by Michael Manning, Tony Luzuriaga and Jason Archibeque. “Ecolab is excited to sponsor the next generation of great culinary stars,” says Ecolab AVP Adam Elkin. “It is really impressive to watch these kids compete.”
CRAEF board member and CIA Greystone representative Russell Scott joins colleagues Diana Delonis and CIA Boucan Group International representative Arnym Solomon as judges for the culinary competition. Sysco LA donated in-kind product by providing chickens for the culinary competition and is serving as the host of the student lounge and reception with snacks. Ben Udave will also participate in the judging.
Winning teams from each competition will be awarded first-, second- and third-place trophies and, most notably, scholarships to aid in their pursuit of higher education. First-place winning teams from each competition also will be sponsored to compete in the 2015 National ProStart Invitational April 18-20 at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim.
About the California Restaurant Association Educational Foundation: CRAEF has awarded more than $1.5 million in scholarships and grants since its inception in 1981. CRAEF works to enhance education and training programs within the hospitality industry. ProStart is a two-year program designed to prepare high school juniors and seniors for exciting careers in foodservice.
