More than 2,000 students in California will take part in the program thanks to the support of and participation from top brands such as: BJ’s Restaurants, Weinerschnitzel, Johnny Rocket’s, Rubio’s, McDonald’s, Sardine Factory and many more.
With the restaurant industry projected to add approximately 150,000 jobs in California over the next 10 years, the foodservice industry provides an important staging ground for both teenagers and young adults to gain entry into the workforce. In fact, 80% of restaurant owners first earned employment through entry-level positions – instilling a belief throughout the industry that “today’s dishwasher could be tomorrow’s CEO.”
“First-jobs are an important step towards self-sufficiency,” California Restaurant Association Educational Foundation Executive Director, Alycia Harshfield said. “Through FIT™ students learn critical skills, taught by people on the front line, which will set them up for future success.”
The public is invited to keep up with all things FIT™ Day by following and using the #skills4life campaign hashtag on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram on October 28.
