The California Restaurant Association (CRA) partnered with CKE Restaurants, parent company of Carl's Jr. and the Green Burrito, to serve breakfast to more than 100 Los Angeles-area at-risk youth as a kickoff to the Camp Wesson summer camp program on Tuesday.
Camp Wesson, a summer camp experience created by Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson, provides underprivileged inner-city youth with the opportunity to experience outdoor adventures they wouldn't normally be able to access. The three-day, two-night event is being held at the Hansen Dam Recreational Area, where children are participating in horseback riding, hiking, fishing, arts and crafts, outdoor dining and campfire activities.
"[The event] that we host through Project SAVE and Community Build Inc. gives at-risk youth the opportunity to experience life outside the everyday challenges associated with crime and gangs. These fine organizations could not do this without support from partners like Carl's Jr," Wesson said in a statement.
"By working together, we are making Los Angeles a safer and more prosperous metropolis for our kids."
