(Sacramento, Calif) – Boyd's Coffee, one of the oldest family-owned coffee companies in the world, based in Portland, Oregon, will return as the title sponsor of the 2015 California ProStart Culinary Cup, the California Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (CRAEF) announced today. The 13th annual competition will be held at the Pasadena Convention Center March 23-24.
“We’re proud to support ProStart students’ determination and are continuously inspired by their passion for the industry,” said Katy Boyd Dutt, Boyd’s director of tactical marketing. “This competition ensures these youth get a glimpse at how working in foodservice can be remarkably life changing and very rewarding.”
The gift from Boyd’s will be used to host the annual culinary competition, which includes high school teams from across the state in a contest of kitchen skills, with the main event involving just 60 minutes to prepare an entire three-course meal using two butane burners.
“Boyd’s Coffee plays a tremendous role in our mission year after year and we are so grateful for their support,” CRAEF Executive Director Alycia Harshfield. “The Boyd name is synonymous with California’s Culinary Cup, and the company’s commitment to education is highly inspiring and a great role model for our students and future culinary leaders.”
The winning team will also be sponsored by to compete in the 2015 National ProStart Invitational April 18-20 in Anaheim, California. First-, second- and third-place teams will qualify for scholarships to various culinary and hospitality post-secondary programs.
About the California Restaurant Association Educational Foundation: CRAEF has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships and grants since its inception in 1981. CRAEF works to enhance education and training programs within the hospitality industry. ProStart is a two-year program designed to prepare high school juniors and seniors for exciting careers in foodservice.
