Be prepared for San Jose minimum wage hike

The San Jose Minimum Wage Ordinance goes into effect March 11, 90 days following certification by the city council on Dec. 11. The minimum wage will be $10 per hour.

Though the California Restaurant Association (CRA) and business groups in San Jose worked to educate voters about the negative consequences of Measure D, a majority of voters approved the increase in November.

The minimum wage ordinance covers employees who perform a minimum of two hours of work in a week within the city limits of San Jose. Employers are required to post workplace notices published and provided by the city on the wage rate and employee rights, and they will be required to prospectively maintain payroll records for four years.
