After these concerns were brought to the city council’s attention, the members of the city council embraced the concerns and felt it was important to formalize the task force rather than keeping it informal to ensure that the task force complies with state government open meeting laws such as the Ralph M. Brown Act. Having a formal process will allow an opportunity for restaurateurs to engage in the formal process and provide input. Additionally, the formal process will provide the public with meeting dates, times, and an opportunity for public comment.
The city council directed staff to return with a recommendation establishing a formal task force. The CRA will be providing technical information and legal resources on the impacts that minimum wage increases have on restaurants and provide recommendations to mitigate some of the impacts these increases have on our industry.
