The Assembly Committee on Labor and Employment voted Wednesday against SB 935 (Leno), which proposed to raise the statewide minimum wage to $13 per hour.
Committee chairman Rodger Hernandez, was in favor of SB 935 and attempted to persuade his colleagues, but Democratic Assemblymen Luis Alejo and Chris Holden joined with Republican Assemblywoman Shannon Grove to stop the bill. Given where we are in the legislative session and impending deadlines, today’s action effectively kills the effort for this year.
Over the last few months, many CRA members joined in the CRA’s grassroots advocacy efforts, including 2014 CRA Lobby Day, writing letters and e-mails and directing phone calls to legislative offices. It’s clear the industry was heard.
