San Diego to consider entertainment fee exemption for restaurants Nov. 8

The San Diego City Council will consider exempting bona fide restaurants from San Diego’s longstanding Entertainment Permit Fee requirement at 2 p.m. Nov. 8 at San Diego City Hall, 202 C St., San Diego. The entertainment permit fee, which ranges from $1,000 to more than $3,000 annually, is applied to all establishments that provide amplified entertainment for customers.

The proposed exemption, developed by the restaurant industry, the mayor’s and council offices, and the San Diego Police Department, will relieve restaurants of this fee provided they meet four conditions, including: no admission charge, no drink minimum, no dancing, and closed hours of hours of 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.

The small-business assistance legislation will provide a much-needed boost for restaurants owners during these tough economic times.
