Defeated: Attorney General Attorney’s Fee Bill
SB 1489 (Ducheny - D-San Diego) would force companies that are sued by the Attorney General (AG) to pay all investigation and prosecution costs whenever the AG prevails in certain lawsuits and requires a judge to automatically award these costs to the AG. This would include expert fees, attorneys’ fees and court costs. Suits included are those under the Unruh Civil Rights Act, the Fair Employment and Housing Act and environmental laws.
