ProStart® School-to-Career program

The ProStart School-to-Career program was created to educate and develop promising high school graduates by giving them culinary and business training. CRAEF is proud to play a role in increasing our students’ opportunities for higher education, jobs and careers in the hospitality industry.

Designed for high school juniors and seniors, ProStart is a two-year program that provides instruction in 25 subject areas, ranging from service to sanitation. This program encourages high school students to embrace and experience all of the skills necessary to operate and manage a successful food service establishment. ProStart also helps students develop the good business management skills crucial to future industry growth.

Nearly 54,000 students participate in the ProStart program in more than 1,300 schools, spanning 47 states, territories and districts; more than 100 California high schools offer the ProStart program today.

The ProStart players

We’ve all heard it before: it takes a village. And, certainly, such is the case with ProStart. This sort of vocational education would not be possible without a cast of characters including teachers, guidance counselors and worksite mentors. Together, this team works diligently to ensure that students have all the industry knowledge they need—both inside of the classroom and out—and that they are aware of the many venues available for them to put their skill set to work.
