California Restaurant Association Member Manhattan Bread & Bagel Honored For Community Service

Sacramento, Calif. – The California Restaurant Association (CRA) in July announced that Manhattan Bread & Bagel in Manhattan Beach, Calif. was a winner of the state’s Restaurant Neighbor Award for 2006. Tonight at Manhattan Beach City Council chambers, owner Michael Keegan will be recognized for his efforts in the community.
 
“Manhattan Bread & Bagel is a prime example of the generosity and philanthropy California restaurants exhibit every day of the year in their communities,” said Jot Condie, President and CEO of the CRA. “The Restaurant Neighbor Awards recognize the driving force behind restaurants’ involvement in community service. It is a great way to shine the spotlight on and honor the many things they do each day to make our communities better places to live and work.”
 
Tonight, Manhattan Bread & Bagel owner Michael Keegan will receive the Restaurant Neighbor Award from California Restaurant Association Chairman Jeff King. Also, Manhattan Beach Mayor Nick Tell will present him with a proclamation recognizing commitment and Helen Duncan, CEO/ President of the Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce, will present a certificate of recognition. 
 
Manhattan Bread & Bagel, in business since 1992, has always strongly supported many community programs. One program initiated, and the reason they won the Restaurant Neighbor Award, is a program called “Cookies and Cash” that reaches out to 10 public schools in Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach. This 10-year-old program gives each of the 10 schools 10 percent of gross sales on 10 separate days. This program has grown each year and schools receive more than $5,000 each year. 
 
Additionally, Manhattan Bread & Bagel supports other local charities like the American Cancer Association’s – Relay for Life, Manhattan Hometown Fair, PTO and PTA groups to name a few.
 
Manhattan Bread & Bagel is owned and operated by Michael Keegan and Lynn Olson, residents of Hermosa Beach for over 20 years.
 
The National Restaurant Association and founding partner American Express developed the Restaurant Neighbor Awards to recognize outstanding community programs across the country and to inspire other restaurant operators and owners to do what they can in their communities.
