L.A. officials expected to make polystyrene recommendation soon

The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works is expected to recommend a comprehensive solution to the Board of Supervisors on the topic of expanded polystyrene.

Over the course of a year the county’s Expanded Polystyrene Working Group has met and detailed a comprehensive program that will combine efforts from municipalities, industry and environmental organizations to reduce the prevalence of EPS food container litter while also working to reduce other forms of litter in the litter stream. Key components of the program include a public education program, litter collection and enhanced recycling efforts.

The California Restaurant Association applauds this type of comprehensive solution for its extensive look at the policy implications and unintended consequences which often result when a single product ban is enacted.
