Zagat lands in Sacramento

Zagat Survey announced yesterday that they are conducting their first online restaurant survey for Sacramento. Diners can rate and review Sacramento restaurants online at www.zagat.com. Survey participants who respond by June 15 will receive a complimentary copy of the Zagat’s 2009 America’s Top Restaurants guide when it is published.
“This is a great opportunity to gain national exposure for Sacramento and elevate the status of Sacramento’s dining scene,” said Michael Ault, DSP executive director. “With guides in major cities like New York, Chicago and San Francisco, a Zagat ranking for any restaurant is like a stamp of approval.”
Until recently, Sacramento’s dining scene was off the radar of the New York-based company. The Zagat Survey produces a San Francisco and Northern California Guide but has never ranked or listed any Sacramento eateries in a guide.
Several years ago a Sacramento coalition represented by the Downtown Sacramento Partnership, Sacramento Convention & Visitors Bureau, Sacramento Metro Chamber, Firehouse Restaurant and the California Restaurant Association, approached Zagat to create a Sacramento guide. Despite citing the diversity, growth and size of the Sacramento region, the efforts remained unsuccessful. Sactown Magazine successfully picked up the conversation with Zagat. The magazine ran an article in their March/April issue calling for a Sacramento survey.
“It’s taken a long time for Sacramento to be acknowledged by the Zagat Survey, ” said Lisa Martinez, DSP director of Marketing and Outreach, “We’re especially grateful to Sactown Magazine for tirelessly advocating for our city to be recognized by Zagat.”
