The ProStart teacher

The ProStart curriculum gives teachers the opportunity to create a highly dynamic and exciting classroom. By consistently linking students’ work experiences to classroom lessons and activities, ProStart teachers bring out the best in their students. Lively, practical learning becomes the norm, not the exception.

Here’s a glimpse inside a day in the life of a ProStart teacher:

  • Utilize the ProStart curriculum to integrate academic, applied and vocational teaching.
  • Create lesson plans that incorporate students’ work experience as well as skills/concepts found in the Student Work Experience Checklist.
  • Foster team-teaching between academic and vocational teachers.
  • Get to know students’ mentors/employers.
  • Learn about students’ worksite activities.
  • Develop off-site teaching collaborations with workplace mentors.
  • Meet regularly with the program coordinator and other teachers to plan and coordinate lessons, monitor students’ workplace progress and evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Update his or her own food service knowledge and skills by observing and participating in professional hospitality settings.
