ProStart Certificate of Achievement
The National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation ProStart Certificate of Achievement is awarded to students who successfully complete both the academic and work experience requirements of the ProStart program. The certificate informs future employers and college admission officers alike that a student has mastered essential food service skills.
How the Certificate of Achievement benefits recipients:
- Shows future employers that you mean business about a career in the food service industry.
- It's the first of many credentials you will earn.
- Demonstrates that you have met national standards.
- Allows you to receive credits at select colleges
- Grants eligibility to compete for ProStart scholarships designated for certificate recipients only.
How to earn the Certificate of Achievement.
- Pass the national exams for both Book 1 and Book 2.
- Create a personal folder/portfolio (i.e., lists of skills, examples of critical thinking and teamwork, letters of recommendation, samples that showcase talents or skills, course records, original recipes, test scores, certificates of recognition, awards and resume)
- Complete 400 hours of mentored internship.
- Up to 150 hours can be in your school restaurant or in-school catering.
- A minimum of 250 hours must be completed in a mentored worksite.
- Copies of pay stubs or an employer letter must be documented.
- An hours log or letter from a ProStart instructor must be documented.
- Complete the Work Experience Checklist
- This must be completed and signed by your mentor/employer.
- Submit above items with the completed Workplace Validation Form.
