A: The FIT training may take place in a high school culinary classroom, auditorium or library – any location which will accommodate the number of students planning on attending the training.
Q: When will volunteers be assigned a high school and training module?
A: Volunteers will be assigned their school and module approximately one-two weeks prior to the FIT day on October 28. There are three training modules: Land It, Work It and Lead It. Volunteers will be assigned to a module.
Q: Will a volunteer teach one or more modules?
A: The goal is to have one volunteer teach one module. However, it may be necessary for one volunteer to teach more than one module. It will depend on the number of schools and the number of volunteers registered.
Q: What technology or room requirements are there for the training?
A: The training is on a PowerPoint Presentation so a screen, projector and computer are required. The curriculum will be emailed to the school. The high school will have the curriculum for the training and meet the room requirements.
Q: How many students can take the training?
A: There may be as few as 20 students and as many as 100+ - as many as the space can accommodate.
Q: Can non-ProStart students participate in the training?
A: The training is reserved for ProStart students.
Q: How much time should volunteers set aside for FIT day?
A: Volunteers should anticipate approximately 3-4 hours. Each module takes 45 - 60 minutes. The FIT day begins at 8:00 am and should be completed at 11:00 am. Volunteers may plan on arriving at their assigned school around 7:30 am.
Q: Will there be a volunteer training?
A: Yes, CRAEF will conduct a one hour webinar training for volunteers on Oct. 21 at 9:00 am. Instructions for the webinar will be emailed to registered volunteers.
Q: What is the FIT certificate (donated by WAVES University)?
A: WAVES is an online training and test used by the restaurant industry to teach soft-skills young people need for success. The themes covered in the online training mirror what is taught in the FIT training. Complimentary course codes will be provided to each student through their teacher and students will receive a certificate when completed.
Q: If I sign up, am I guaranteed a high school assignment?
A: Yes, CRAEF will do its best to match volunteers with a local high school. Each school may have up to three industry volunteers for the FIT training.
Q: As a volunteer, do I need to have anything prepared before October 28?
A: Participation in the volunteer training webinar is required. Please review the curriculum, a link to a drop box to access the curriculum will be provided, prior to the training. You may consider bringing sample applications from your business or hiring standards to share as examples for the students. You may bring branded marketing materials as well.
Q: Do we need to register in order to participate in FIT day On October 28?
A: Yes, please but all volunteers must register online at www.calrest.org/FIT and participate in the training.
Q: Can our company promote our participation in FIT?
